a watercolor of my dad’s favorite spot for his birthday

& with making all these paintings & drawings i’ve needed to get a new way to organize my pens & brushes. i bought this piece of wood for 25 cents at the thrift store & glued different sized cups to it before spray painting it gold. it works wonderfully !

on the needles, i’m working on a new design in this silk (my favorite color)! soon to be a lacy tee !

wip : tulle embroidery & cancun

ever since going to help pick out a wedding dress with one of my closest friends i’ve been obsessed with the magical, seemingly weightless metallic embroidery on tulle. i don’t really have experience in embroidery but that didn’t stop me from gathering up the supplies to try it out! this is my first foray, i just tried out some stitches this time but next time i’m going to draw up my design first. the backing will dissolve in water once i finish !

i was lucky enough to take a trip to cancun, mexico this month! i spent a lot of the time knitting this (soon-to-be lacy summer top) with incredible views !

also in mexico, we went on a day trip to the mayan ruins & i was absolutely kicking myself for not bringing my watercolors but couldn’t resist doing this quick sketch (with a hotel pen on scrap paper . . .) of chichen itza, one of the new wonders of the world !

I’m currently studying in Barcelona & I’ve really gotten into travel drawing/painting using this little “kit” . . .

I started with this $1 eyeshadow palette

– sanded off the label

– scraped out the eyeshadow

– painted the lid white to make a clean surface to mix colors on

-spray painted the outside (gold is best !)

– squeezed in my favorite watercolors (these are Koi brand)

& that’s it! Some things I’ve done with it . .

[p.s. I’m still updating my travel blog if you’re interested !]

en plein air

I haven’t had much time for making things while studying abroad. But on spring break in Italy (!) I stumbled across an art store & jumped at the chance. It was so interesting for me to experience people being able to watch me work. Very strange. It felt so good to stretch my drawing muscles though.

The breathtaking view in Cinque Terre.
