i’m starting a new design . . . a lace overlay hat. i’m really excited about how its turning out so far. i used really soft chunky wool for the base of the hat & the lace is a super-fine (& also soft) alpaca.
i’ve also polished up my blog design! i made this new header & this wip video. i started with a bunch of watercolor circles & then added the text & knit stitch border in illustrator. adding in these social media buttons that i made from gold foil photos really seemed to tie it together
along the same lines, i did some exciting work freelancing recently. i created this logo for She Enlightened, a new feminist-spiritual site with meditations, affirmations, and a mission of gender equality. we worked together to create this logo, a combination of a lotus flower (a classic feminine symbol) with the “aries” symbol (often connected with the womb & feminism). i’m really proud of how it came out, especially when i see these sketches from where we started out !
(if you’re interested in hearing more about she enlightened you can check out their twitter as well !)
I recently finished (sort of – I’m still considering backgrounds & frames) this watercolor of a champagne bottle. The foil bits are real (!) gold leaf! It doesn’t show up well on camera but in real life it shines.
& on the needles I have this super-lightweight top-down sweater. It’s slow going in the summer weather, though.
p.s. I’m currently interning at an amazing organization : Women4Women Knitting4Peace ! I’m teaching knitting lessons and attending knitting groups, trouble shooting patterns, & a ton more. Learn more at website !
Summer is in full swing at home & I’ve taken to learning french through podcasts (“coffee break french” in particular) while making things in the sun on the front porch. Above: the beginnings of a crochet necklace.
& a sketch of a giant champagne bottle; color to be added soon.
I had a rare day off today & made this painting. It’s watercolor & pencil on paper with a little charcoal.
I started out with the gesture drawing on the left in charcoal pencil & moved to the more technical one on the right . . .
My work-space was a little different than most of my paintings because of the fractal-things on the sides. I used a ton of address labels & cut them with an x-acto knife to get the straight lines. (coffee a must)
summer is in full swing here & it’s been scorching hot. (Lots of great beach days in my future !) I started my summer job & I’ve been too busy to hardly make anything, but I sat down for about a half hour today to do this quick watercolor sketch of a bowl of pansies on our front porch.
I’m on spring break! I spent the first half of my week-long vacation visiting friends at my old college (I transferred after a major change) & enjoying a little time in nyc. Above is what I was knitting on my 8-hour train ride to the city (A sparkly cotton/rayon tank top) and perfect-sky-blue baby alpaca that I bought at purl soho..
I don’t have much time to make things right now, but I did finally get my watercolors from home! I’ve been doing little sketches in between my to-do notes & calc homework and now I’m starting to give them a quick wash of color here & there.
